Officials determine substance in chocolate bar that led to Cape Cod students being transported to hospital

SOUTH YARMOUTH, Mass. – The Yarmouth Police Department is actively investigating an incident that occurred Thursday morning involving three students from Dennis Yarmouth Middle School.

At approximately 9:10 a.m., School Resource Officer Voltolini received notification that a student in the nurse’s office was experiencing a reaction to an unknown substance they had consumed. The student reported consuming part of a chocolate bar on the bus before arriving at school.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered that two other students had also consumed the same item but were not showing any symptoms at that time. In response to the situation, the Yarmouth Fire Department was contacted, and the three students were promptly transported to Cape Cod Hospital for medical evaluation.

A follow-up meeting took place Friday involving School Officials, Yarmouth Police, Parents, and the students directly affected by the incident at the Middle School.

The three students who were transported to Cape Cod Hospital were treated and released shortly thereafter.

It has been determined that the students inadvertently ingested a THC-edible chocolate bar, which led to the reported symptoms. The source of the chocolate bar has not been identified at this time.

Both the Yarmouth Police Department and School Administration jointly consider the incident closed as immediate actions were taken to address the situation and ensure the well-being of the students.
