Officers spring into action to rescue two kayakers in distress on Taunton River
The Berkley Police Department has released details concerning a distress call from two kayakers on the Taunton River, just south of the Berkley Dighton Bridge.
On Wednesday just after 12:45 p.m., the Berkley Police Department received a distress call from two kayakers who found themselves battling against strong winds and unable to reach shore.
Understanding the urgency of the situation, Officers Engstrom, Freire and Det Sgt Newhook promptly mobilized and proceeded to the scene.
Upon arrival, the officers observed the kayakers struggling against the elements and realized the immediate need for assistance. Without hesitation, they waded through the challenging terrain of mud and water to reach the distressed individuals.
Through their combined efforts, the officers successfully rescued the two women, pulling them to safety and ensuring their well-being.
The Berkley Police Department would like to remind the public of the importance of being prepared and aware of weather conditions when engaging in outdoor activities, particularly on bodies of water. It is crucial to monitor weather forecasts, wear appropriate safety gear, and inform others of your plans to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
