Off-duty police and fire rescue unresponsive patient from Massachusetts pond who was transported by Medflight
Off-duty personnel came to the rescue of someone in distress on Thursday night.
According to a statement by the fire department, at approximately 9:00 p.m., the Halifax Fire and Police Departments were dispatched to a report of a person calling for help in East Monponsett Lake.
Initial reports from police on scene confirmed a patient who was unresponsive in the water.
Off-duty police officer Michael Boncariewski took the initiative and kayaked out to the patient to hold them above water. Then further lifesaving action was taken by off-duty Duxbury Firefighter Duxbury Fire PIO Jennifer Stratton in assisting in bringing the patient back to shore where duty shift and recall personnel were able to take over care and resume lifesaving procedures.
The patient was flown by Medflight to Brigham and Women’s Hospital and taken to the ICU.
No other details on the person’s condition were released.
