Norton, Mansfield, Attleboro, North Attleboro respond to blaze that destroys home, injures 85-year-old

NORTON — Chief Shawn Simmons reports that the Norton Fire Department extinguished a fire at a trailer park this morning.

On Friday, May 17 at 9:06 a.m., the Norton Fire Department received a report of a fire at a trailer home located at 250 Mansfield Ave.

An 85-year-old man was able to escape the trailer prior to the arrival of firefighters.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed heavy flames coming from the rear of the trailer. Firefighters immediately began conducting an interior attack of the fire.

The 85-year-old man was transported by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital to be treated for injuries sustained while evacuating the residence.

Firefighters had the fire under control after 25 minutes and remained on scene conducting overhaul, and primary and secondary searches.

The home was deemed a total loss. Two residents are displaced at this time and are being assisted by friends and family.

Mansfield Fire Department, Attleboro Fire Department, and North Attleboro Fire Department provided mutual aid at the scene. Easton Fire Department provided station coverage.

The cause and origins of the fire remain under investigation by the Norton Fire Department and Norton Police Department with assistance from the State Police Fire & Explosion Investigation Unit assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s office.
