North Carolina man arraigned on drug and organized retail theft charges after pursuit by Massachusetts State Police
A man is facing several charges after a vehicle later crashed after a police pursuit.
According to Connecticut State Police, on Monday, a BMW with New York plates was being pursued by Massachusetts State Police when they used stop sticks on the vehicle. The pursuit ceased when the vehicle crossed into Connecticut and later crashed at the Union weigh station on Interstate 84 in Union, CT.
The vehicle rolled over, seriously injuring the driver, who was airlifted by helicopter to a hospital.
The passenger, 23-year-old Elijah Carlton Baugh of Willard, North Carolina, fled the scene on foot into a thick wooded and swampy area. Connecticut State Police K-9 Viper tracked Baugh through the woods, leading to his apprehension.
After receiving medical treatment for crash-related injuries, Baugh was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell/distribute, interfering with an officer, third-degree larceny, and organized retail theft (under $10,000).
Later this week, he was held on a $10,000 bond and appeared in Rockville Superior Court.
Baugh’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 23rd.
Charges are pending for the driver in this incident.
