Norfolk County police department announces sudden and untimely passing of active-duty officer
A Massachusetts police officer has died unexpectedly, according to his department.
The Quincy Police Department regrets to announce the sudden passing of active-duty Police Officer Michael “Mike” P. Howie.
Officer Howie grew up in the Montclair neighborhood of Quincy and graduated from North Quincy High School in 1992. Immediately following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Upon returning home to Quincy, he continued his service to our country by joining the Army National Guard, deploying to Iraq with the 102nd Field Artillery.
He began his nearly 20 year law enforcement career with the Transit Police Department, transferring to the Quincy Police Department in 2011, where he served his community until his untimely death.
He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years to Noreen (Carson) Howie and was a devoted father to their son Matthew and daughter Rebecca and many family members and friends. QPD expressed their thoughts and prayers are with them during this very difficult time.
Visiting hours will take place at Keohane Funeral Home 785 Hancock Street Quincy, MA on Thursday February 12, 2026, 4:00-8:00pm. A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Quincy on Friday, February 13, 2026, at 10:00am. Burial will occur at a later date.
A cause of death was not released.
