The driver of a pickup truck was arraigned Monday in his hospital bed on drunken driving charges related to a head-on collision on Union Street in Braintree early Sunday morning that seriously injured three people in an SUV, Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey said.

39-year-old Ryan Gorman of Holbrook, faces three counts of driving under the influence of alcohol causing serious bodily injury, driving negligently so as to endanger and failing to drive within marked lanes. He was held on $5,000 cash bail.

The crash occurred just after 12:45 a.m. on Sunday in the area of 655 Union Street.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Gorman was traveling west on Union Street when he crossed into the eastbound side of the road and colliding head on with an SUV driven by an 18-year-old West Yarmouth man.

The driver of the SUV and a 21-year-old passenger suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries. An 18-year-old passenger in his vehicle suffered life-threatening injuries and remains hospitalized.

The Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and an assistant district attorney from the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office responded to assist Braintree police.

The crash remains under investigation by the Braintree Police, the Massachusetts State Police and the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office.
