Nine motorists arrested for impaired driving during New Year’s Eve patrols
The Rhode Island State Police today announced the arrest of nine motorists for impaired driving during New Year’s Eve patrols.
“Last night was a busy one for our Troopers and they arrested nine people for suspected impaired driving,” said Colonel James M. Manni, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and Director of the Department of Public Safety. “For every impaired driver our Troopers take off the road, a potential tragedy is averted, but we need motorists to make better choices. Drinking or using drugs and driving is always a bad decision.”
The following motorists were arrested Thursday night or Friday morning:
At 8:45 PM, Anthony Paiz Gonzalez, age 19, of Woonsocket, Rhode Island was arrested for driving under the influence of liquor and/or drugs (blood results pending). This arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop on Route 37 in Cranston.
At 9:00 PM, Khevin Kheav, age 36, of Attleboro, Massachusetts was arrested for driving under the influence of liquor and/or drugs (B.A.C. unknown) and chemical test refusal. This arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop on Route 95 in Pawtucket.
At 10:30 PM, Edward Souza, age 60, of Central Falls, Rhode Island was arrested for driving under the influence of liquor and/or drugs (B.A.C. unknown) and chemical test refusal. The arrest was the result of Troopers investigating a motor vehicle crash on Route 95 in Pawtucket.
At 11:19 PM, Luis Lopez, age 47, of Providence, Rhode Island was arrested for driving under the influence of liquor and/or drugs (B.A.C. unknown) and chemical test refusal. The arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop on Route 95 in Providence.
At 12:48 AM, Andrew Ginaitt, age 28, of Warwick, Rhode Island was arrested for driving under the influence of liquor and/or drugs (B.A.C. unknown), chemical test refusal, and driving with a suspended license. This was the result of a motor vehicle stop on Route 10 in Cranston.
At 1:23 AM, Daniel Ferreira, age 42, of Dorchester, Massachusetts was arrested for driving under the influence of liquor and/or drugs (B.A.C. – .093, .094). This arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop on Service Road in Providence.
At 2:00 AM, Wlemogar Brown, age 30, of Johnston. Rhode Island was arrested for driving under the influence of liquor and/or drugs (B.A.C. unknown) and chemical test refusal. The arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop on Route 95 in Pawtucket.
At 2:05 AM, Juan Vargas, age 21, of Johnston, Rhode Island was arrested for driving under the influence of liquor and/or drugs (B.A.C. unknown) and chemical test refusal. The arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop on Hartford Avenue in Johnston.
At 2:32 AM, Devon Acosta, age 31, of Cranston, Rhode Island was arrested for driving under the influence of liquor and/or drugs (B.A.C unknown and chemical test refusal. This arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop on Twin River Road in Lincoln.
The Rhode Island State Police have increased impaired driving enforcement significantly with the addition of the Traffic Safety Unit, a collaboration with RIDOT/ Office of Highway Safety and funded by a federal grant through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
