A local woman is on the mend after a serious incident involving a dog.

According to a GoFundMe fundraiser, Karen Reise is known for her big heart whether it’s taking in rescue dogs or helping the homeless. Now it’s the communities turn to help her.

On September 2nd, “Karen suffered an unfortunate injury with Nala, her rescue pit bull. Nala was previously traumatized in her past, and on this day, Karen was attempting to comfort Nala during one of her unexpected outbursts, but Nala unfortunately turned on her and Karen suffered severe injuries to her face. She has already endured emergency surgery, multiple follow up visits to RI Hospital and has been ordered out of work indefinitely. Her recovery ahead is a long one. At this time, she has multiple mounting medical expenses, and financial burdens she cannot take care of due to being out of work indefinitely.”

Reise issued an update on social media.

“I haven’t had a chance to thank everyone for the love, daily prayers, calls, visits, flowers and the best food, made especially soft, for me while I heal from this accidental dog bite. After my follow up at RI Hospital the other day, I’m trying to accept my healing process is going to be way longer than expected. I don’t know how I thought so many hours of stitching my face and putting me back together would heal in a week. There are so many people to thank and love you all from the bottom of my heart.”
