Newport Police arrest 31-year-old man after moped crash involving 18-month-old toddler
A man is facing multiple charges after an incident in Rhode Island over the weekend.
According to police, on Sunday at approximately 9:30 p.m., Newport Police Officers and Newport Fire Rescue personnel were dispatched to Spring Street at Dixon Street for a motor vehicle accident involving a moped and an unoccupied parked vehicle.
When officers arrived on scene, they observed 31-year-old, Charles Fenwick laying on the ground with an apparent leg injury. A witness was holding an 18-month-old toddler who was a passenger on the moped.
Newport Fire Rescue transported the 18-month-old toddler directly to Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence for treatment. Fenwick was transported to Newport Hospital for treatment to his leg and was subsequently transported to Rhode Island Hospital.
Fenwick was charged with Child Endangerment, DUI resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, Reckless Driving and Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test.
Fenwick is currently being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Rhode Island Hospital. The 18-month-old is in stable condition at Hasbro Children’s Hospital.
The case is still under investigation by Newport Police Detectives.
