New York man accused of using fraudulent credit card to purchase $13,400 in Pokémon cards in Bristol County, stolen cards still missing

RAYNHAM — Raynham Police worked with the Manchester, N.H., Police Department to identify a New York man following an investigation into the fraudulent purchase of five Pokémon cards worth $13,400 from a Raynham trading card shop.

On Tuesday, Aug. 5, around 7:37 p.m., Raynham Police responded to a report from a local business that a customer had used a fraudulent credit card to purchase five Pokémon cards: a Bubble Mew valued at $3,200, a $1,300 Jolteon V, a $1,450 Shining Mew, a $4,300 Magikarp, and a $1,250 Blastoise.

Police reviewed video surveillance footage, which provided a description of the suspect, who wore a black hat, a black T-shirt with a dog on it, and a black cross-body bag, and the make, model, and registration of the White Mercedes-Benz he drove away from the store.

On Aug. 6, a card shop in Manchester, New Hampshire, aware of the other business’s social media post about the fraud, notified Raynham Police that a man fitting the suspect’s description was inside the store attempting to purchase Pokémon cards.

Raynham Police contacted Manchester Police, who stopped and identified the driver as 41-year-old Chencai Xie of Fresh Meadows, New York.

Raynham Police obtained an arrest warrant in Taunton District Court charging Xie with Credit Card Fraud Over $1,200 and Larceny Over $1,200

Xie was driving the same Mercedes, which investigators determined was a rental car, and wearing the same clothes as the previous day.

The stolen Pokémon cards have not yet been recovered.

Xie will be arraigned in Taunton District Court at a later date.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
