Fall River Police made a gun arrest this week thanks to a newly formed team.

According to Det. Sergeant Matthew Mendes, on Tuesday, members of the Fall River Police Department Community Action Suppression Team (CAST) were on proactive patrol in the area of Pulaski Park due to community complaints about occurrences of suspicious activity occurring in the park.

At approximately 3:00 p.m., members of the unit observed several males standing on the sidewalk of Pulaski Street, just outside of the entrance to the park. Two of the males, one wearing a hooded sweatshirt and the other wearing a “sheisty style” ski mask were observed to be intently monitoring motorist as they passed by and were observed displaying behavioral characteristics consistent with individuals who illegally possess firearms. There was also a third male amongst the group that investigators had recently received intelligence on and was believed to be in possession of a firearm.

Taking into account the details listed, investigators approached the individuals, at which time the male in the hooded sweatshirt fled into the park on foot while clutching his waistband and ignoring verbal commands by investigators.

Investigators apprehended the male as he was attempting to jump over a fence, subsequently locating a semi-automatic Taurus 9mm on his person that was equipped with a 32 round extended magazine containing 20 rounds of ammunition.

The 16-year-old is charged with Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Carrying a Loaded Firearm without an LTC, and Carrying a Firearm without an LTC.
