New Bedford woman sentenced in Fall River Superior Court after seizure of well over a kilo of illicit drugs, cash
A local woman was sentenced Monday in Fall River Superior Court after pleading guilty after a drug raid resulted in the seizure of well over a kilo of illicit drugs.
According to police, on Monday, February 24th, detectives concluded their investigation into a fentanyl distribution service being operated out of Swan Street in New Bedford. A search warrant was executed, with the targets being 37-year-old Christopher Ferreira and 33-year-old Kayla Kasmouski.
As a result of the search that followed, detectives seized over 824 grams of cocaine, over 512 grams of fentanyl, 76 film strips of Suboxone, an assortment of pills, packaging materials, digital scales, and $5,643 in cash.
Ferreira and Kasmouski were both charged with trafficking in 200 grams or more of cocaine, trafficking in 200 grams or more of fentanyl, conspiracy to violate the drug law, and possession to distribute “crack.”
Kasmouski was additionally charged with trafficking fentanyl in 18 grams or more and a warrant arrest.
The arresting officer was Det. Jacob Rebello.
According to court records, on Monday, Kasmouski pled guilty to lesser charges of trafficking in 36 to 100 grams of cocaine and trafficking in 18 to 36 grams of fentanyl.
She was sentenced to not less than 3 1/2 years to not more than 7 1/2 years with credit of 252 days served.
Ferreira has a pre-trial conference scheduled for December 5th.
“This is a substantial amount of narcotics to be taken off the streets, and I’m very grateful for the hard work that goes into an investigation like this,” said Chief Paul Oliveira at the time of the arrests. “In a time where fentanyl is wreaking such havoc in our communities, we can measure the value of these seizures not only in grams but in the number of lives saved. A job well done.”
