Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn, III has announced that a 23-year-old New Bedford man will be sentenced after being convicted by a jury last week of First-Degree Murder by Deliberate Premeditation and Firearms Offenses.

John Geovanni Pires Monteiro Macedo will be sentenced by the Honorable William White tomorrow morning in the Fall River Superior Court.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Tara Burdman and Catherine Sauter.

The defendant was convicted of the August 3, 2023, murder of 27-year-old Amarito Fernandes of New Bedford.

The evidence at trial proved that Monteiro Macedo approached a vehicle parked on County Street in New Bedford shortly after 11:00 p.m.  The victim was an occupant of the vehicle.  While Monteiro Macedo was at the vehicle, he produced a firearm and shot the victim several times as the victim attempted to flee.
