New Bedford man pronounced dead after being transported to Fall River hospital after Assonet crash
The name of the victim has been released concerning a fatal crash in Assonet.
According to Lieutenant Benjamin Levesque, on Sunday at approximately 11:30 p.m., the Freetown Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call reporting a serious single-vehicle crash on Copicut Road near the intersection of Bell Rock Road in Assonet. Freetown Police and Fire were dispatched to the scene.
First responders arrived to find a 1997 Jeep Wrangler that had crashed into the wood line. Outside the vehicle, they located a 29-year-old male passenger who was seriously injured. He was subsequently transported by the Berkley Fire Department to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford.
The 28-year-old driver, Edmund Arsenault, Jr., of New Bedford, was ejected from the vehicle and was discovered unresponsive. Freetown Fire-Rescue transported him to Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Arsenault was being remembered as a great dad and friend who was always there for those who needed him.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Freetown Police Department, Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
