New Bedford man killed in pedestrian crash being remembered as services announced

BROCKTON – A New Bedford man killed this week in a pedestrian crash is being remembered.

At approximately 8:40 p.m. Tuesday night, Brockton Police received a 911 call for a report of a pedestrian struck at the intersection of North Quincy and Hovenden Streets. Brockton Police and emergency medical personnel responded and located a male victim in the street. The victim was transported to Brockton Hospital where he was pronounced dead of his injuries. He has been identified as Domingos Gomes, 57, of New Bedford. 

Brockton Police contacted Massachusetts State Police troopers assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and an investigation commenced. 

The male operator of the Ford Econoline van that struck Gomes stopped on scene and dialed 911. 

Family members say that they are cherishing the memories they had with Domingos as they deal with his sudden loss.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 25, 2024, from 4:00PM-7:00PM located at George Lopes Funeral Home, 647 Main Street, Brockton, MA 02301.

The Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00AM on Monday, August 26, 2024, located at St. Edith Stein Parish, 71 East Main Street, Brockton, MA 02301.

Burial will take place at Melrose Cemetery, 88 North Pearl Street, Brockton, MA 02301.

Brockton Police and Massachusetts State Police troopers assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the incident.
