New Bedford man held on bail in Fall River Superior Court after authorities seize over 1 kilo of drugs, ghost gun, ammo, cash

A local man was granted bail in Fall River Superior Court Tuesday after being arrested following a suspected cocaine distribution operation that resulted in the seizure of large quantities of cocaine and fentanyl, along with a loaded ghost gun.

According to New Bedford Police, on May 18th, detectives executed search warrants on Church Street, Monroe Drive, and a Honda Accord as part of the operation targeting 30-year-old Oscar Moreno.

As a result of the investigation and subsequent searches, detectives seized approximately 946.4 grams of cocaine, 306 grams of fentanyl, Percocet tablets, a loaded .40 caliber Poly-80 ghost gun containing eight rounds of ammunition, packaging materials, digital scales, and $2,280 in cash believed to be proceeds from drug sales.

Moreno has a prior conviction from December 2021 for possession with intent to distribute a Class D substance.

He was arrested and charged in District Court with trafficking 200 grams or more of cocaine, trafficking 200 grams or more of fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute a Class A substance, possession with intent to distribute a Class B substance, possession of a Class B substance, and conspiracy to violate the drug law.

Moreno’s roommate, Janessa Quino, was summonsed on the same charges.

An occupant of the Monroe Drive residence, identified as 26-year-old Jalen Perry, was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm without an FID card, possession of an untraceable firearm, possession of a large-capacity firearm, and possession of a Class B substance.

Court records show that on Tuesday in Fall River Superior Court, Moreno pled not guilty and had bail set at $50,000 surety/$5,000.00 cash. A pretrial conference is scheduled for September 23rd.

Perry was previously held without bail in New Bedford District Court and has a pretrial hearing scheduled for August 4th.

Quino was held on $2,500 cash bail in New Bedford District Court and has a trial readiness conference scheduled for August 28th.
