National Weather Service issues Heat Advisory for coming days
The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for the area.
* HEAT INDEX VALUES…Between 95 and 100 degrees.
* TIMING…This afternoon into early this evening and again Tuesday afternoon into early Tuesday evening.
* IMPACTS…Risk of heat exhaustion during outdoor exertion or extended exposure.
* LOCATION…This includes northern Connecticut, Rhode Island, as well as eastern Massachusetts, and the lower elevations of western Massachusetts.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sunshine, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency, call 9 1 1.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are also in the forecast for today.
