National Weather Service confirms Tornado in Massachusetts, power outages, damage, flooding

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a TORNADO WARNING for East Central Barnstable county until 12:45 p.m. As of 12:21 pm, a radar confirmed tornado touchdown in Harwich is moving northeast at 35 m.p.h.

Response Activities:

· MEMA SEOC has activated to a Level II (partial) activation.

· Barnstable has activated the MACC. MEMA is deploying staff to the MACC at this time.

· The NWS is deploying a survey team to Yarmouth and South Harwich.

· State Building Inspectors are deploying a building inspector to the Barnstable MACC.

Reported Impacts:

· Downed trees and wires

· Strong wind gusts

· Heavy rain (1 to 2 inches per hour)

· Road closures

· Structure damage

Power Outages:

Total outage across the state as of 12:32 pm 8,370.

Outages by utility provider:

· Eversource (Eastern MA): 7907

· National Grid: 146

· Eversource (Western MA): 246

· Unitil: 71
