Narrows Center releases March schedule of events

FALL RIVER—The Narrows Center offers another great roster of events during the month of March. Here’s the March schedule of upcoming events. Doors open at 7pm and shows start at 8pm, unless otherwise noted.

Fri, March 1. Amy Helm. Amy Helm sought what she calls a “circular sound” for her new album, This Too Shall Light”. It’s a well-­‐rounded one, one marked by streaks of Americana, country, blues, and gospel, and the kinds of four-­‐part harmonies that can burst open a melody and close the loop of an octave. And sentimentally, it’s a sound that represents the feeling of community. $32 Advance. $37 Day of Show.

Sat, March 2. Colby James Band. Accomplished singer-­‐songwriter Colby James has earned an outstanding reputation as one of the area’s most recognized and truly gifted musicians to appear on the live stage. His genuine style and brand of music are all his own. Nick Pouliot opens the show. $22 Advance. $25 Day of Show.

Sat, March 9. 10am-­‐3pm. Spindle City Fest. This event is all about art, music, food, fun, mind and body. It serves as an opportunity for Fall River and the surrounding communities to showcase what the area has to offer in the realms of art, entertainment, victuals, and creativity. Festivities include an artist market, holistic makers, beer and wine tastings, free fitness classes, psychic readings, and a live performance by local legend Neal McCarthy. Sat, March 9. Chatham County Line. This band has never been shy about crossing borders. Birthed from country rockers Stillhouse in 1999, the Raleigh, NC-­‐based used the term “guerilla bluegrass” to describe themselves in those early years. Now, band member Wilson says, “We’re kind of an American band without drums, or a rock and roll band who doesn’t plug anything in.” Bluegrass band Four Bridges opens the show. $22 Advance. $25 Day of Show.

Thurs, March 14. Melvin Seals and JGB. Melvin Seals has been a powerful presence in the music industry for over 30 years with a long-­‐established reputation as a performer, recording artist, and producer. He is most revered for his powerful, high-­‐spirited, Hammond B-­‐3 organ, and keyboards in the Jerry Garcia Band. Melvin spun his B-­‐3 magic with the Jerry Garcia Band for 18 year and in doing so helped pioneer and define what has now become “Jam Band Music”. From blues to funk to rock to jazz, Melvin Seals serves up a tasty mix with a little R&B and gospel thrown in to spice things up. $29 Advance. $32 Day of Show.

Fri, March 15. Jim Messina. Few musical artists resumes list membership in a band inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame; fewer still can lay claim to being a founding member of the seminal band credited with creating country rock; and only one artist can include all the above in addition to being one half of the most successful duo of the 1970’s. $45 Advance. $50 Day of Show.

Sat, March 16. Marta Pereira da Costa. Marta is the world’s first and only professional female Portuguese guitar player in Fado, the soulful music from Portugal recently acknowledged by UNESCO as part of the World’s Intangible Cultural Heritage. $22 Advance. $25 Day of Show.

Fri, March 22. Band of Friends – A Celebration of Rory Gallagher. Gallagher’s music reached a massive audience from Norway to Spain, from Japan to the USA, covering all parts of the globe and producing some of the greatest rock and blues albums of the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s. Band of Friends consists of musicians who played with Rory as his rhythm section for years and is fronted by the incomparable Davy Knowles. $30 Advance. $32 Day of Show.

Sat, March 23. Eric Lindell. With his raspy, soulful voice and instantly memorable original songs, roots-­‐rocking multi-­‐instrumentalist Eric Lindell is a true one-­‐of-­‐a-­‐ kind talent. Mixing West Coast rock and swampy Gulf Coast R&B with honky tonk country and Memphis soul, Lindell creates American roots music that is both surprisingly fresh and sweetly familiar. $30 Advance. $35 Day of Show.

Tues, March 26. Los Lobos. “We’re a Mexican American band, and no word describes America like immigrant. Most of us are children of immigrants, so it’s perhaps natural that the songs we create celebrate America in this way.” So says Louie Perez, “poet laureate” and primary wordsmith of Los Lobos, when describing the songs on the band’s new album, Gates of Gold. $77 Advance. $82 Day of Show.

Fri, March 29. Pousette Dart Band. Jon Pousette-­‐Dart is a vibrant American Classic and Folk Rock songwriter, musician, and performing artist. Growing up in a household of artists, picking up a guitar at the age of ten and mapping out his life in music before he ever attended little league game. Since then it’s been a long and well-­‐traveled road in the world of music. $30 Advance. $35 Day of Show.

Sat, March 30. Journeyman: A Tribute to Eric Clapton. Shan Hauge has built quite the resume in the last decade of his life. At 17, he was named “The Best Young Blues Guitarist” by the House of Blues and by 21, the young guitarist was playing guitar for blues phenom Kenny Wayne Shepherd. His career has also seen him sharing the stage with Amos Lee, John Waite, and Terra Naomi. $30 Advance. $33 Day of Show.
