Name released of woman killed in fatal crash involving delivery truck on Route 28
MIDDLEBOROUGH — Police Chief Joseph Perkins and Fire Chief Owen Thompson report that the Middleborough Police and Fire Departments have responded to a fatal motor vehicle crash on Wareham Street.
According to n Friday, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Middleborough Police and Fire responded to Route 28 in the area of Cushman and Rocky Gutter streets for a report of a head-on crash.
Upon arrival, first responders observed that a delivery truck and an SUV had collided and subsequently caught fire.
The driver of the delivery truck was transported by ambulance to an area hospital.
The driver of the SUV was transported to an area hospital where she died from her injuries. According to Beth Stone of the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, the identity of the driver is 72-year-old Susan J. Byrne of Middleboro.
Those who knew Byrne described her as a beautiful person who was a pleasure to be around, to talk to, and to work with. She was the President of Byrne Sand & Gravel.
Services have yet to be announced.
Middleborough Police are investigating the crash with assistance from the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
