Name released of 74-year-old man killed in Bristol County highway collision
A Bristol County man has died from injuries sustained in a weekend collision.
According to Deputy Chief Timothy Cook, Jr., at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, the Attleboro Police Department responded to a report of a motor vehicle versus pedestrian crash in the area of 149 Pleasant Street (Route 123) in Attleboro.
The pedestrian, 74-year-old Basil Bletsis, a resident of the Pleasant Street Rest Home located at 144 Pleasant Street, sustained significant injuries, and was subsequently transported to Sturdy Hospital. The pedestrian succumbed to his injuries, and was pronounced deceased at approximately 9:00 p.m.
The operator of the motor vehicle which struck the pedestrian immediately stopped, and is cooperating with investigators.
The initial investigation indicates that the vehicle was travelling east-bound on Pleasant St. when it struck the pedestrian.
Massachusetts State Police Crash Reconstruction responded to the scene, as well as Attleboro Police Detectives and State Troopers assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
No criminal charges have been filed against the operator of the vehicle at this point, as the investigation is on-going.
