Name released in Friday fatal pedestrian crash on Route 95
Colonel James M. Manni, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and Director of the Department of Public Safety, reports that a pedestrian was struck and killed on the ramp from Lonsdale Avenue to Route 95 South in Pawtucket yesterday evening.
The victim was identified as Joao Daveiga, age 76, of Pawtucket, Rhode Island.
Troopers received a report of a car-pedestrian crash at approximately 5:05 p.m. on the ramp from Lonsdale Avenue to Interstate 95 South, where Daveiga was struck by a vehicle as he was crossing the on-ramp.
Daveiga was transported to Rhode Island Hospital and pronounced deceased at the hospital. The operator of the vehicle was not injured as a result of the crash.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
