Name of the victim and cause released after crash on Route 195 ramp left a man deceased
The name of the victim has been released in addition to the cause of a crash that left a local man dead.
According to Trooper Brandon Doherty, at approximately 3:15 p.m. Sunday, patrols from the State Police-Dartmouth Barracks responded to calls reporting a single-car crash into a utility pole at the end of the ramp from Route 195 eastbound onto Washburn Street in New Bedford.
Upon arrival, Troopers came upon the crash, where a man had experienced a medical event and lost consciousness while driving. New Bedford Fire and EMS, as well as New Bedford PD assisted on-scene and first responders attempted life-saving aid.
The man, 46-year-old Jeffrey Szynal of New Bedford and formerly of Fall River, was transported to Saint Luke’s Hospital.
A passenger in the vehicle was not injured in the crash.
Szynal was determined to be deceased after arrival at the hospital.
The crash remains under investigation by the State Police-Dartmouth Barracks with assistance from the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and Bristol County State Police Detective Unit. The ramp to Washburn Street was closed for roughly one hour to facilitate recovery and cleanup.
