“My sister loved her children”; New Bedford mother and son killed in crash on Interstate 195

Police continue to investigate a fatal highway crash that took place Friday morning.

According to Tim McGuirk of Massachusetts State Police, at approximately 9:35 a.m., Troopers from the Dartmouth Barracks responded to a motor vehicle crash on Interstate 195 East in the City of New Bedford near exit 24A.

Preliminary information indicates that a vehicle carrying 5 individuals rolled over. 2 of the occupants were pronounced dead at the scene as a result of their injuries and 3 others were transported to a local hospital.

According to family members, a mother and son from New Bedford are the two deceased. The mother’s remaining children were among the injured.

The victim’s sister told Fall River Reporter that her sister loved her children, and this has been painful for the family.

The family is looking to raise money for the two funerals through this GoFundMe fundraiser.

The crash remains under investigation by the Bristol County Detective Unit as well as the State Police’s Crime Scene Services Section and Collison Accident Reconstruction Services.
