Multiple vehicle crash leaves three with serious injuries in Portsmouth
Three were seriously injured in a multi-car crash Thursday in Portsmouth.
According to Detective Lieutenant Michael C. Arnold, this morning at 7:40 a.m., the Portsmouth Police responded to West Main Road at Hedly Street for a report of a multi-vehicle accident. Upon arrival, Officers observed there to be four vehicles involved.
A 24 year old male was operating a black Dodge Durango north bound on West Main Road and lost control of his vehicle, swerving into the south bound lane and colliding with another vehicle head on. This set off a chain of events in which the Dodge Durango also struck two other vehicles in the north bound lane. Those two vehicles sustained minor damage. The Portsmouth Fire Department responded and had to extract the 24 year old from his vehicle due to extensive damage.
Three people involved with the accident were taken to local hospitals with serious but not life threatening injuries. The roadway was shut down for approximately one hour.
