Multiple people taken to the hospital after high-speed late night boat crash
Multiple people were transported to the hospital after a reported high-speed boat crash late on Saturday.
Just before 11:30 p.m., Portsmouth Fire Alarm received a 911 call from a resident on Hog Island who reported a vessel that crashed into land at a high rate of speed.
According to Portsmouth Firefighters, Portsmouth Marine 1 and Bristol Marine 1 were dispatched to the incident. Portsmouth Marine 1 was the first arriving vessel and established command of the incident. Portsmouth Marine 1 found an approximately 30’ pleasure craft that struck a small island on the west side of Hog Island.
Due to the area being very rocky and shallow, it was difficult to gain access to the vessel to check for people on board. Luckily, a Good Samaritan with a smaller boat was able to shuttle Portsmouth firefighters closer to land and check for injuries with the assistance of Bristol Marine 1.
The two parties involved in the accident were transported to Bristol for evaluation by Bristol Rescue. One party was transported to Newport Hospital.
