Multiple local crews, Massachusetts State Police respond to collision with deer that injured 4 on Route 140
Crews responded to a collision Monday night that injured several people.
At just before 11:00 p.m., Lakeville firefighters responded to Route 140 South, just south of County Street, for a report of a passenger vehicle that had collided with a deer.
According to the Fire Department, “the impact caused significant damage to the vehicle. Four passengers were transported to area hospitals by Lakeville and Freetown Ambulances with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening. Unfortunately, the deer did not survive the crash.”
Massachusetts State Police also responded to the scene.
“The Lakeville Fire Department reminds drivers to use extra caution during deer mating season. Firefighters respond to numerous motor vehicle crashes each fall involving deer. Increased deer activity typically occurs from October through December, especially during dawn and dusk when visibility is low.
• Slow down and stay alert, especially on rural and wooded roads.
• Use high beams when possible to better spot animals.
• If a deer crosses your path, brake firmly — do not swerve, as it can lead to more serious crashes.
• Remember, where there’s one deer, there are often more nearby.”
