Multiple fire departments, Massachusetts State Police respond to difficult highway collision with injuries on Route 495

Local fire departments and Massachusetts State Police responded to a highway crash with injuries where the vehicle become entangled in a guardrail on Friday.
According to the Mansfield Fire Department, at just after 11:30 a.m., Mansfield Fire Department units, along with mutual aid from Foxborough Fire, responded to a single-vehicle crash on Route 495 Southbound at the exit ramp for Route 140. The dispatched units included Mansfield C31, C32, E31, R36, and Foxborough E24, L26, and R27.
Upon arrival, crews found an SUV that had collided with and become entangled in the guardrail.
The passenger was quickly and safely extricated; however, the driver was pinned inside due to the guardrail piercing the side of the vehicle. Firefighters worked for 45 minutes to carefully free the driver using specialized extrication equipment.
The female passenger sustained minor injuries and was transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital. The male driver, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital.
“This was an extremely challenging extrication, and our crews from both towns worked seamlessly together to ensure the best possible outcome for the victims,” said Fire Chief Justin Desrosiers. “I commend all personnel on scene for their professionalism and expertise in handling this difficult scene.”
The accident is under investigation by Massachusetts State Police.
