Much of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut to experience wind chills in the negative

Now that the mini snowstorm is gone, bitter cold is set for much of southern New England.

According to the National Weather Service Boston, an arctic airmass is moving into southern New England this week, with frigid temperatures expected through Thursday morning.

A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect Tuesday morning for portions of northwestern Massachusetts.

These cold temperatures will continue through at least mid-week.

The forecast:

Tonight

Mostly clear, with a low around 9. West wind 5 to 8 mph.

Tuesday

Increasing clouds, with a high near 23. West wind 6 to 9 mph.

Tuesday Night

Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 5. Wind chill values as low as -6. Northwest wind around 8 mph.

Wednesday

Sunny, with a high near 21. Wind chill values as low as -5. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph.

Wednesday Night

Mostly cloudy, with a low around 10. Calm wind.

Thursday

A slight chance of snow after 4pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 32. Light southwest wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Thursday Night

Partly cloudy, with a low around 16. Light northwest wind.
