MSP Fugitive Unit apprehends youth hockey coach accused of sexually assaulting children
Troopers assigned to the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section this morning located and arrested a youth hockey coach wanted for allegedly sexually abusing children in multiple jurisdictions.
MSP VFAS Troopers arrested Christopher M. Prew, 33, without incident at an address on Shirley Street in Winthrop. Troopers were assisted by uniformed Winthrop Police officers.
Troopers transported Prew to Essex Superior Court in Salem for arraignment as a fugitive. MSP VFAS sought Prew at the request of Vermont State Police after Prew failed to turn himself in to a Vermont court yesterday to answer to child sexual assault charges in that state. When Prew did not surrender at the court in Vermont, as he had been directed to do, a warrant for his arrest was obtained from Essex Superior Court.
Prew was a private youth hockey coach in Marblehead before he was indicted on multiple child sexual assault charges last year. He faces similar charges in Vermont.
