MPD: Charges coming for driver who hit pedestrian and left the scene; impact knocked victim’s shoes off

Chief Joseph Perkins reports that the Middleborough Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a pedestrian on Thursday night.

Middleborough Police have located the vehicle allegedly involved in the incident and have identified a suspect. The investigation remains active and ongoing and charges will be forthcoming.

On Thursday, Oct. 28, Middleborough Police responded at 8:40 p.m. to the intersection of Oak and Arch streets after receiving a report of a woman who was unconscious on the side of the road.

Upon arrival, officers located paramedics from Brewster Ambulance Service who were on-scene providing emergency medical care to the victim.

The victim, identified as a 48-year-old Middleborough woman, was suffering from an apparent head injury. She was transported to Morton Hospital in Taunton.

The force of the impact knocked the victim’s shoes off, which were found nearby at what is believed to be the point of impact, along with broken pieces from a motor vehicle.

Members of the Plymouth County Bureau of Criminal Investigation were called to the scene to assist in the investigation.

Officers viewed video surveillance footage from the area and saw that a dark colored SUV struck the woman, and that the vehicle made no attempt to slow down or stop after striking the victim.

Through the subsequent investigation, officers determined that the vehicle involved was a Toyota Venza and located the damaged vehicle parked in a driveway outside of a home on Arch Street Friday morning.

Investigators interviewed the vehicle’s owner and determined that she was the alleged driver of the vehicle at the time of the incident.

The investigation is still ongoing and no charges have been filed, but they are forthcoming. Because no charges have yet been filed, the identity of the suspect is not being released by police.
