A local motorcycle rider was seriously injured in a weekend crash.

According to the department, the Lakeville Fire Department responded to the intersection of County Street and Freetown Street just before 7:45 p.m. Sunday for a reported motorcycle crash.

At the time of the incident, both Lakeville ambulances were committed to other medical emergencies. Car 1 responded from home and Engine 1 responded with recalled firefighters. Due to the unavailability of local ambulances, Rescue 3 from the Freetown Fire Department was requested to assist.

Responders arrived to find an adult male suffering from serious injuries. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to St. Luke’s Hospital by Freetown Rescue 3. A Lakeville firefighter accompanied the ambulance crew to assist with patient care during transport.

The motorcycle crash was one of six incidents handled by Lakeville firefighters and EMS personnel over a three hour period.

Earlier in the evening, firefighters responded to a carbon monoxide incident on Main Street after a resident operating a gas powered pressure washer inadvertently filled a basement with exhaust fumes. Firefighters ventilated the structure and confirmed conditions were safe.

EMS crews also responded to two traumatic injuries at Ted Williams sports fields, transporting both patients to the Hospital, and then handled two additional medical emergencies requiring transports to Morton Hospital.

The Lakeville Fire Department appreciated the assistance provided by the Freetown Fire Department and is grateful for the strong work from their firefighters.
