Middleboro man arrested after allegedly purposely hitting police cruiser head on
MIDDLEBOROUGH — Chief Joseph Perkins reports that a Middleborough police cruiser was struck by a fleeing suspect’s vehicle following a disturbance Wednesday night.
At approximately 9:34 p.m., Middleborough Police responded to a call about a disturbance at a home on Wareham Street. Upon arrival, a male, 42, of Middleborough, fled the scene in a vehicle. Responding officers pursued him to another location approximately one mile away where the suspect pulled into a parking lot. As the cruisers approached the vehicle, the suspect allegedly drove head-on into a cruiser, backed up, drove head-on into the cruiser a second time, backed up and drove head-on into the cruiser a third time.
The MALE then got out of the car and was ordered to the ground by officers and was subsequently placed under arrest without further incident. He was then transported by ambulance to a local hospital for evaluation.
The Middleborough officer that was in the cruiser that was struck suffered minor injuries and was transported to a different area hospital and has since been treated and released.
The male is being charged with:
Possession of Ammunition Without a License to Carry
Attempted Murder with Motor Vehicle
Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon
Operating Under the Influence (Second Offense)
Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
Failure to Stop for Police
Attempt to Commit a Crime to Wit: Larceny of a Firearm
Attempt to Commit a Crime to Wit: Larceny from a Building
The incident remains under investigation and the suspect will likely face additional charges.
The male will be arraigned in Wareham District Court on Thursday.
No further information about the alleged incident is being released by police at this time.
