Memorial Day Parade among list of Fall River events across several days to honor those who gave ultimate sacrifice

The Fall River Veterans Service Office and the Fall River War Council invite the public to participate in the 2024 Memorial Day events. The events begin on Friday, May 17 and conclude with the Memorial Day Parade and ceremony on Monday, May 27. The list of events, time, and place of the event, as well as the point of contact are as follows:

Friday, May 17: Civil War Monument Ceremony at 10 a.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery. Councilor Linda Pereira (508) 965-8266.

Saturday, May 18 to Sunday, May 26: Flagging of the graves at various times and cemeteries. Contact Flags Officer Victor Farias at (774) 451-1190 for dates, times, and locations.

Saturday, May 18: Washing of the Fall River Vietnam Wall at 2 p.m. at Bicentennial Park, War Council Commander Ray Hague (508) 207-6021.

Saturday, May 25: Italian American War Veterans Ceremony at 7 p.m. at Bicentennial Park, Italian American Veteran Commander Frank DiMatteo (508) 264-2426.

Saturday, May 25: Gold Star Families Candlelight Vigil at 7:45 p.m. at Bicentennial Park. Rolling Thunder MA Ch. 2 Founding Member Michelle Hamilton (508) 344-6655.

Sunday, May 26: Polish War Veterans Monument Ceremony, Mass, and breakfast, 8 a.m. at Blessed Trinity Parish, Fr. Rob Nemkovich (508) 672-4854.

Sunday, May 26: Griffin Park Memorial Ceremony at 10:30 a.m. at Griffin Park. War Council Commander Ray Hague (508) 207-6021.

Sunday, May 26: Rolling Thunder MA Ch. 2 Ride for Freedom and Ceremony, Kick-off at noon, ride starts at Plainridge Casino and ends at Bicentennial Park with ceremony at 2:30 p.m., Rolling Thunder MA Ch. 2 President Jim Tragakis (617) 293-6852.

Monday, May 27: War on Terrorism Monument Ceremony, 9 a.m. at North Park, Gold Star Mothers JoAnne Mello (508) 415-5002 and Carlene Barrett (508) 673-9455.

Monday, May 27: Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony. Set up will be at 9:30 a.m. with a Kennedy Park Monument Ceremony at 10:30. Parade kick-off will be at 11 a.m. With a ceremony after the parade at 11:45 at Government Center. War Council Commander Ray Hague (508) 207-6021 or City Councilor Linda Pereira (508) 965-8266.

PLEASE NOTE:  These events will be held rain or shine and are open to the public.
