Members of the Fall River Police Department were recently recognized for their bravery for the second time this month.
FRPD members were recognized Thursday with the Medal of Valor at the 126th Annual Massachusetts Police Association Convention Awards Ceremony for their heroic actions during the tragic Gabriel House fire.
On July 13th, 2025, 13 members of the Fall River Police Department responded to the devastating fire at the Gabriel House assisted living facility. Despite heavy smoke, intense flames and rapidly deteriorating conditions, officers repeatedly entered the burning building to rescue residents, many of whom had significant medical and mobility challenges.
Officers climbed fire escapes, carried residents down multiple flights of stairs and improvised evacuation methods using blankets and emergency equipment. Working alongside fellow first responders, they helped evacuate more than 50 residents while putting their own lives at risk.
