Mayor Paul Coogan announces Nicholas Silva as next Chief of Fall River Emergency Medical Services
FALL RIVER, MA- Mayor Paul Coogan has announced the appointment of Captain Nicholas Silva as the next Chief of Fall River Emergency Medical Services.
Captain Silva is a 13-year veteran of EMS, beginning as a Paramedic in 2011 before being promoted to Lieutenant in 2017 and Captain in 2023.
“He is a highly effective leader with vast experience in patient care. Over the past few years, Captain Silva has been central to the development of the Fall River EMS Mobile Integrated Health Care and Community Paramedicine initiatives,” said Mayor Coogan.
The appointment of Captain Silva follows the retirement of Chief Timothy Oliveira after 30 years of dedicated service to the City of Fall River. After his appointment as Chief in 2017, Chief Oliveira oversaw unprecedented growth in the EMS division and provided steady leadership through the City’s response to the COVID pandemic.
“The city is extremely grateful to former Chief Oliveira for his years of service and consistent leadership. We wish him all the best in his retirement” stated Mayor Coogan.
Captain Silva assumed the role of Chief in an acting capacity, on Monday until his permanent appointment is ratified by the City Council. The request for appointment will be submitted to the Council in December.
