Mayor Coogan reduces Fall River Police Chief Furtado’s proposed contract from three years to one

In a move that is not fully public yet, Fall River Mayor Paul Coogan has reduced interim Fall River Police Department (FRPD) Chief Kelly Furtado’s proposed contract from three years to one year. The move is likely an attempt to win over at least one councilor that has objected or voted against Furtado’s contract in the past. The vote is expected to take place this evening.

As of 2pm today, tonight’s Fall River City Council’s agenda has Mayor Coogan’s request for a three year FRPD Chief contract for Kelly Furtado.

Yesterday, Mayor Coogan sent an email to the city councilors reducing the length of the contract from three years to one year. Fall River Reporter has received a copy of the email and new contract.

In the past, revisions have been uploaded to the city councilor agenda page. For example, on April 22, 225 the revised agenda was uploaded, but nothing on tonight’s city council meeting.

It’s unsure why the new contract request has not been added for pubic consumption and why it has been added on such short notice. Calls to Mayor Coogan have not been returned as of this writing.
