Massachusetts woman with toddler charged after gun goes off at Walmart
A Massachusetts woman has been charged after her gun went off while shopping at Walmart on Monday.
According to Northborough Police, just after 8:30 p.m., officers responded to Walmart at 200 Otis Street for a report of an accidental firearm discharge.
Upon arrival, officers were directed by store employees toward Crystaly Perez of Worcester.
Officers determined that there were no injuries from the shooting and that the gun was in Perez’s purse. She is also licensed to carry.
According to Perez, she was paying for her groceries and reached into her purse for some change when the firearm discharged. She stated she had no idea how it discharged.
Surveillance footage from the store showed the purse under Perez’s left arm while her son was sitting in the shopping cart at register #6. The bullet went through her purse toward the ground and struck the vestibule of register #5.
Perez willfully surrendered her firearm, ammunition, license to carry, and her purse.
Perez was charged with Discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.
