Massachusetts woman turns $5 into $1 million State Lottery prize; here is how she plans to spend it
A Massachusetts woman is a little richer after recently hitting big money on a scratch ticket.
According to the Massachusetts State Lottery, Nancy Diamond of Salem is the winner of a $1 million prize in the Massachusetts State Lottery’s “$1,000,000 Stacks of Cash” $5 instant ticket game.
She chose the cash option on her prize and received a one-time payment of $650,000 (before taxes). She plans on buying a new car with the winnings.
She bought her winning ticket at Nicole’s Food Store, 406 Essex St. in Salem. The store receives a $10,000 bonus for its sale of this ticket.

650 before taxes? So what is she actually getting after taxes? And where / who is getting the 350 difference 🙄 🤔 right of the top? So much for winning 1 million! I’d also like to say congrats nevertheless it’s still a lot of $$$. I recognize you from around town. Happy to see a fellow Salemite win big. 😁

You pay a penalty for taking the lump sum instead of the annuity. There was a time where you had no choice but to take the annuity. People asked for a lump sum option but since they are giving the money up front, you take a penalty.
