Massachusetts woman killed in pedestrian crash remembered for dedication to family, work as nurse, volunteering

A pedestrian who died last Wednesday afternoon after she was struck by an SUV in the area of 314 Washington St. in Weymouth is being remembered.

According to Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey, the deceased, 78-year-old Harjit Thakral of Weymouth, was taken by ambulance to South Shore Hospital where she was pronounced dead at just before 1:45 p.m., about a half-hour after the accident.

The driver of the SUV remained at the scene.

No charges were immediately filed.

According to an obituary, Thakral was dedicated to her husband, children, and dogs. She worked as a nurse at Spaulding Rehabilitation Center in Boston for seventeen years and then worked at various nursing homes in the Braintree and Weymouth area. She also worked as a nanny and enjoyed volunteering at Tufts Library and at Sacred Heart School where she served as the school nurse and helped in the cafeteria.

The accident is under investigation by Weymouth Police and the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office.

They are being assisted by troopers from the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services Section who responded to the scene.
