Police in Massachusetts responded Friday morning to a fatal highway motor vehicle crash.

According to police, at just after 2:45 a.m., the Southborough Police and Fire Departments responded to Turnpike Road (Route 9 East) after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a serious motor vehicle crash.

First responders arrived to find a twovehicle crash.

One of the drivers, 37-year-old Crystal Johnson Clementi from Leominster, was pronounced dead at the scene

The other driver, a 23-year-old woman from Bolton, was transported by Southborough Fire to a local hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. She is still hospitalized.

Preliminary evidence gathered from the scene of the crash is consistent with a head-on collision involving a second vehicle, driven by the Bolton woman, traveling in the opposite direction on Turnpike Road. The driver of the second vehicle is currently in the hospital.

Investigators are currently gathering evidence, conducting interviews, and pursuing leads.

The crash remains an active investigation involving the Southborough Police Department, Central Mass Law Enforcement Council (CMLEC), and the Worcester County DA’s Office.

According to a GoFundMe fundraiser, Clementi leaves behind a husband and son.

“Crystal was such a loving soul and would do anything for anyone, without hesitation. Crystal was one of the most amazing humans to ever walk the earth. She was strong, bold in her beliefs, she stood for what was right, fought for the people she loved, and loved deeply. Our family will forever be grateful that we were able to have 37 beautiful years loving, and knowing her. We are devastated and will miss her so deeply.”

Clementi had beaten cancer and was known in the area for helping raise legal defense funds for Karen Read and Aidan Kearney.

Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact Detective Owen O’Brien at (508) 485-2121 or oobrien@southboroughma.gov.
