Massachusetts woman allegedly killed by her son remembered as positive and kind
A Massachusetts woman is being remembered after allegedly being killed by her son.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Lowell Police Superintendent Greg Hudon confirmed last week that Lowell Police officers responded to a residence on Middlesex Street for a 911 call reporting a woman beaten up and barely breathing. Upon arrival police located the victim, Elena Vainer, 51, of Reading, deceased inside the home with obvious bruising to her face and other apparent trauma.
The preliminary investigation suggests that the victim had been in Lowell visiting her son Michael Belous, 23, at his Middlesex Street condominium. At some point during the visit, a physical altercation occurred that allegedly resulted in the victim being severely beaten and suffering multiple injuries to her head and neck. Belous was placed under arrest and charged with assault and battery on a household or family member, assault and battery causing serious bodily injury.
Belous was arraigned in Lowell District Court and was held without bail.
According to a GoFundMe fundraiser organized by friends and co-workers, Vainer is being remembered as “a young and happy person with big plans for the future. She was such an amazing individual, and we are honored to have known her and been a part of her life. Her purpose in life was to help others. She cared deeply about her family, friends, her mother’s friends, immigrants from Ukraine, and anyone around her couldn’t help but fall in love with her, her positive energy, and the sunshine of her soul. Everyone who knew her has fond memories of her kindness. The world was a much better place with Elena in it. Her passing is a significant loss for her family and all who knew her.”
Vainer funeral services are taking place on Friday.
The investigation into Vainer’s death is being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office and the Lowell Police Department. This case has been referred to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner who will determine cause and manner of death. Additional charges are possible.
