Massachusetts teen moped driver killed after morning collision with dump truck
A Massachusetts teen riding a moped was killed late this morning after colliding with a truck.
According to the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office, Dedham Police, members of the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office Motor Vehicle Homicide / Major Collison Unit are investigating a fatal collision this morning in the vicinity of 21 Washington Street, close to the West Roxbury Line, in the town of Dedham.
Police responded to the area prior to 11:15 a.m. for the report of a collision between a commercial dump truck with two occupants and a moped with two occupants traveling in the direction of Dedham.
The driver of the moped, 17-year-old Rakeem Akile Austin of Dorchester, was transported to the Faulkner Hospital with obvious trauma and did not survive his injuries. The passenger of the moped traveled in the ambulance with the driver.
The occupants of the dump truck remained on scene and spoke to police.
The collision remains under investigation with no charges in place at this time.
