Massachusetts student arrested after allegedly pointing stapler like gun into classrooms
A Massachusetts student was arrested Wednesday after an incident at his school.
According to Officer Michael Wilk, at 9:23 a.m., on January 8th, a staff member at Chicopee Academy believed she saw a student with what appeared to be a firearm in his possession. Fearing for her and the schools safety, she called it into the main office. SRO Al Blankenship was notified and the school was placed into a lockdown. As a precaution, schools in the immediate area of the Academy were also placed into lockdown. Dispatch was notified and officers, along with K9 and Mass State Police, responded. Officers began searching classes and clearing rooms. Video was viewed and it was determined that 2 students had taken staplers, opened and extended them, and made them appear to be firearms, and walked the halls, waving them around and pointing them into classrooms. Once the students realized they had been seen, they hid the staplers in their clothing.
The students were located and identified.
Officers secured and cleared the building. As a result, Carlos Correa, 19, was arrested and charged with Disturbance while Carrying a Dangerous Weapon.
Correa was processed and transported to court. Additionally, a 16 year old student will be summonsed to Juvenile Court for similar charges.
The investigation is ongoing, according to police, and additional charges could be added.
