Massachusetts State Trooper seriously injured after being hit by stolen motorcycle needs home modifications, mobility equipment, to return home
The Massachusetts State Police Union has issued an update an incident that occurred on Monday.
According to Massachusetts State Police, shortly before 5:00 p.m., a motorcycle struck a State Trooper outside of his cruiser on Revere Beach Boulevard in front of the Revere Barracks. As a result of the collision, the Trooper was propelled approximately 45 feet and seriously injured.
State Police Crime Scene Services Section and the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section responded to the scene.
Preliminary information indicates that the motorcycle was stolen.
The suspect is identified as Akram El Moukhtari, 18, of Revere. He is expected to be arraigned at Chelsea District Court on charges including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, receiving a stolen vehicle, and leaving the scene of personal injury. The timing of the arraignment is not known at this time.
The Massachusetts State Police identified the injured Trooper as Lieutenant Donald Bossi, Station Commander of the Revere Barracks.
Lieutenant Bossi remains in stable, but critical, condition under the care of the medical team at Massachusetts General Hospital.
The State Police Association of Massachusetts released an update on Bossi and a fundraiser to help.
“The State Police Association of Massachusetts extends its heartfelt support to Donny Bossi, a 34-year veteran of law enforcement who was critically injured in the line of duty earlier this week. Donny was struck by a stolen motorcycle and thrown 45 feet, suffering a 360-degree pelvic fracture, head lacerations, and severe facial injuries. He remains in stable condition following surgery, but his recovery will be long and difficult—he faces at least three months unable to bear any weight on his feet.
“Throughout his distinguished career, Donny has exemplified commitment and courage, protecting the public with integrity. He and his wife, Sue—his partner in life for over 30 years—have raised three children while dedicating themselves to the service of others. Now, as they face these unimaginable challenges, they need our support.
“To help Donny return home safely and ease the strain on his family, critical home modifications and mobility equipment are urgently needed. These essentials will make a profound difference in his recovery and quality of life.
“We encourage all who are able to donate through the Massachusetts State Police Commissioned Officers Association to support the Bossi family during this time. Thanks to the generosity of The Greg Hill Foundation, all contributions will be matched up to $5,000—doubling the impact of your support.
“Let’s stand together for Donny and his family, just as he has always stood for us.
