Massachusetts State Police want to warn the public after receiving many reports of a scam that is currently taking place.

Today, the State Police Boston Barracks has received approximately 100 phone calls reporting suspicious activity as part of a phone scam.

In this scam, victims receive a call from a person claiming to be a Massachusetts State Trooper with the “Internet Crime Complaint Center.” The fake Trooper tells the victim that their identity is being used to commit crimes in China and asks them to stay on the line to speak with Shanghai Police to resolve the matter.

MSP stated that the Massachusetts State Police does not have an “Internet Crime Complaint Center,” and they urge anyone who receives a call like this to disconnect and never provide personal information.

They believe this scam extends nation-wide as they have received reports from as far away as Indiana.
