A Massachusetts man is facing drug charges after a recent investigation.

According to Massachusetts State Police, on December of 2024, members of the Norfolk State Police Detective Unit (SPDU) – Narcotics Section received information that a Whitman man was distributing fentanyl throughout Norfolk County. Norfolk SPDU sought and obtained search warrants for an address on School Street in Whitman, and a rental vehicle associated with the suspect. On June 24, Troopers initiated surveillance operations in preparation of execution of the search warrants.

The suspect, John Monteiro, 38, of Whitman, was later observed leaving the School Street address in his rental vehicle and was followed by Norfolk SPDU Troopers. A second contingent of Troopers executed the search warrant for the address and discovered over 80 grams fentanyl, and evidence of a fentanyl packaging and distribution operation.

After locating a fentanyl operation, the Troopers shadowing Monteiro placed him under arrest and transported him to the Milton Barracks for booking. Troopers executed their warrant for the rental vehicle Monteiro was driving and found Oxycodone pills. These pills were not in a pharmaceutical pill bottle and Monteiro did not have a prescription for them.

John Monteiro was arraigned at Brockton District Court and faces charges of Possession with Intent to Distribute Oxycodone, and Trafficking Fentanyl.

Members of the MSP CINRET-South, Whitman Police Department, Abington Police Department, the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office, and the W.E.B. Drug Task Force of West Bridgewater; East Bridgewater; Bridgewater; and BSU Police Departments assisted throughout this investigation.
