Massachusetts State Police searching for vehicle, after 1 dead, 1 charged, in possible highway street racing crash

One person is dead, and another is facing charges after a Massachusetts highway crash.

According to Tim McGuirk of Massachusetts State Police, on Friday, at approximately 10:30 p.m., State Police from the Bourne Barracks and Plymouth Fire and Rescue responded to reports of a 3-car crash on Route 3 South in Plymouth at mile marker 5.8.

Responding Troopers discovered a woman in her late 20s on scene who had been ejected from a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 30-year-old Anthony Bradley of Plymouth. EMS transported the woman to a nearby location where she could be med flighted to a Boston hospital. The woman died as a result of her injuries in the Boston hospital.

Bradley sustained serious injuries that required hospitalization at Beth Israel Plymouth. He was also med flighted to a Boston hospital for additional care.  

Preliminary information from witnesses indicates that Bradley may have been racing another vehicle at the time of the crash. As he traveled at a high rate of speed in the breakdown lane, witnesses indicated Bradley’s Jeep struck a Mini Cooper in the right travel lane that he was passing on his left side. The Jeep rolled over as a result of the crash, struck a third vehicle while crossing the highway, and came to rest straddling the left passing lane and the median.

The third vehicle in the crash fled the scene. Law enforcement issued a BOLO (“be on the lookout”) for a dark green or blue Dodge Challenger with significant front-end damage.    

In addition to Troop D personnel, members of the Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Section (CARS), Crime Scene Services Section (CSSS), and the Plymouth County State Police Detective Unit responded to the scene. For the safety of motorists, MassDOT officials, and investigators on scene, officials closed Route 3 south until shortly after 2:00 a.m. Plymouth Police provided essential assistance by helping State Police and MassDOT reroute traffic off the highway during the on-scene investigation.

Bradley will face several charges in connection with the crash, including motor vehicle homicide by reckless operation, negligent operation, breakdown lane violation, and speeding. He will be arraigned at Plymouth District Court when medically able to do so.  

The crash remains under investigation by the Plymouth County State Police Detective Unit.
