Massachusetts State Police have issued more details concerning a fatal highway crash.

According to Dave Procopio of Massachusetts State Police, the operator who suffered fatal injuries in yesterday’s crash on Route 95 in Needham is identified as Dylan Chaves, 31, of Fiskdale.

Investigation indicates he was operating a 2021 Chevrolet Colorado pickup southbound on Route 95 at approximately 4:40 a.m. Tuesday, when he lost control of the vehicle, spun into the concrete median barrier, and came to a stop in the left lane, generally perpendicular to the roadway and its driver’s side facing oncoming traffic. Simultaneously, a 2020 Dodge Ram pickup being operated southbound in the left lane by a 54-year-old Nashua, N.H., man was unable to avoid the Chevrolet and struck its driver’s side.

Chaves was determined to be deceased on scene. The operator of the Dodge was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

Chaves was a family man that leaves behind a wife and children and was described as a great friend and one of the kindest people you could meet.

At the time of the crash, lighting conditions were dark, it was raining, and the road surface was wet.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing and is being conducted by the State Police-Framingham Barracks and the MSP Troop H Detective Unit, Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and Crime Scene Services Section.
